Here is a quick break down of my favourite 9 shows this summer!

  1. Gypsy

This psychological thriller really explored parts of the human mind that most shows simply don’t. Some people said the show was too slow for them, but for me the character building was absolutely brilliant. A therapist who is herself very lost and looking for her place in this world, while also a mother to a beautiful little girl who seems to be leaning towards being transgender, and a rocky marriage on both her and her husband’s parts. It was oddly relatable. I heard that Netflix hasn’t picked Gypsy up for another season after several weeks of working on the show, so we will have to see! I really hope we get a season 2!

  1. The Sinner

Another show with some deeper psychological things going on! The sinner is a limited series offered by the USA network and follows the journey of a young mom who has violent outbursts when triggered and doesn’t understand why. The help of a detective and psychologist are trying to unravel the secrets of her past that may be what is ruining her future.

  1. Riverdale

This show is one I watched people do reactions and reviews for and thought I wouldn’t enjoy because I never really cared for comic books, I was wrong. This show is so much more than a comic book, with all those main characters including Archie, Jughead, Veronica, Betty, Jose and the Pussycats, Cheryl and of course their messed up twisted families. A murder mystery that is truly mysterious and has you theorizing after each episode. Coming back this fall for season 2, I recommend a binge!

  1. Room 104

An anthology type of show that only runs for half an hour or 22 minutes if you DVR it! It takes place in Motel Room 104 and so far, is only 3 episodes in. With new characters/actors and a new storyline each week it is always fun to look forward too. While there is nothing to really theorize about and each episode does conclude, it does leave a lot open to interpretation. Is the room haunted? Does it attract evil or strange things? Is this a weird version of If These Walls Could Talk? A fun show that is almost a comedic/dramatic/thriller. After the first episode, I was reminded of a childhood show on YTV called “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” Very fun!

  1. The Fosters

I binged the first four seasons of The Fosters on Netflix earlier this summer and was anticipating season 5. It is a little bit chaotic right now at I believe 5 episodes in and a ton of storylines, but it is a great mostly family friendly show that is also family oriented! It deals with the struggles of adoption, foster care, the way juvenile courts work, LGBTQI, preparing for university and the way your actions can follow you through life. I really enjoy this show, even on weeks where it feels more like filler! A good friend does a live chat each Wednesday morning on The Fosters on YouTube and it is a lot of fun!

  1. Quantico

Another show I binged the first season of. It has a very HTGAWM feel in how it time jumps to reveal the truth and the first season was really good. I am struggling to enjoy the second season but I am giving it a shot just the same. I may enjoy it a LOT more once the kids are back in school and I can pay attention to those time jumps better.

  1. OZARK

I literally just began watching this show yesterday and I am only one episode in but oh my, a lot has happened. The write-up on Netflix says, “A financial adviser drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder $500 million in five years to appease a drug boss.” As you can imagine there have been murders, threats and a lot of craziness that you would normally get from a mob style movie. So far, I am really enjoying this show and feel there is a lot of hope for the rest of the season.

  1. Girlboss

Another show I had absolutely no plans to watch, and fully expected to hate. WRONG! I feel like I relate a lot to the main character who is just a young lady trying to have the best of both worlds, happiness and the money to survive! Very inspirational. Though, if you are turned off by inappropriate gestures and swearing this show may not be for you!

  1. The Handmaid’s Tale

I watched this show earlier this spring with eager anticipation of every episode. It is another brilliantly done show and while it’s based on an old book by Canadian author Margaret Atwood, it certainly feels relevant to how things are going in the USA in 2017. It’s a scary thought that this show really COULD happen in the near future if bigoted men continue to speak and act the way they have over the past year. I HIGHLY recommend this show. Don’t let the word “dystopian” talk you out of seeing this eye-opener!

What movies or tv shows have you been watching? What are you looking forward to seeing this fall? I am excited for the return of Riverdale, How to Get Away with Murder, Scandal, 13 Reasons Why, and a ton of others!

I was hanging out over on Musicians Friend again and saw the akai renaissance and was really amazed by all one can do with a very cool machine that uses the power of your computer and your imagination to create music. It can also be used as a stand alone, has so many built in features and all sorts of things that a professional would DREAM OF! I am really excited about this. To think, I am simply looking for a Mic and some decent recording software and stumbling across something as awesome as this!

If you are into production or simply want to create your own sound this is definitely something you should consider!

It is spring which means it is wedding season and while you are finishing up on planning your wedding you may still be wondering which rings to get, we all get it, the little things that are really the BIG things get pushed to the back, especially when it comes to time and money. But this little thing is your wedding band, a symbol of your love and devotion for all of your days. Maybe that sounds a bit scary, but think of Grandma and Grandpa celebrating their 50 and 60 year wedding anniversary… The ring, it has to hold up and last and be timeless just like your love for one another

Joy Jewelers platinum wedding band offers amazing styles to suit any theme, style, budget, and need! How exciting is it to know that it’s not too late to choose the band that you will wear for the rest of your days and to know you have chosen well?

Platinum is the new gold. It is a stronger type of metal so it won’t wear thing and fall off, it won’t easily succumb to scratches or damages and it is both modern and classic. And yes, those wedding rings that you wear day after day, that wash babies and do dishes wish do wear down, they wear right through sometimes because unlike our clothes it doesn’t get changed with the seasons, or even with the days, many never remove theirs.

If you are getting married this year I am soooo excited for you!! I see quite a few engaged couples hanging around on the internet whether it’s Youtube, Twitter or on blogs just like mine. Pinterest boards filled with the perfect wedding images as a lady plans out a dream she has had since she was a little girl.

Make your dreams come true; make her dreams come true.

I close my eyes and imagine that I am anywhere but inside of my own head. The thoughts violently swirling around to a past that I have never been able to forget and the news of this girl missing hitting me in the gut the way a tornado aims right at a trailer park.

I was only 9 years old when my cousin went missing. He walked out the door and said something to his sister and something just wasn’t right, he got into a white pickup truck that the police never looked for and didn’t care to find. It was easier to just stamp the cause of death as a suicide.

Three days we roamed the town, the yard, the gravel pits behind. Calling his name in a worry that everyone felt but no one cared to admit. Deep down we knew he wasn’t going to be found alive.

The police searched the area and searched again. On that third day they found his body at the bottom of a cliff. His cause of death was blunt force to the head, his shoe torn, his stomach empty and he was still warm, he had only died a few hours before. Suicide.

All these years later and it still doesn’t sit right. A 16 year old boy taken off for three days without any food or water with a hundred houses within the area he was found all with unlocked doors and a convenience store right next door. I have been to the brink of suicide, it didn’t take me 3 days to plot or plan, it didn’t involve any thought at all.

Now we have a 16 year old girl in our town missing just like that. No sign or trace or reason. She went for a walk with friends and was last seen at 6pm on February 27th, the police aren’t saying a thing, every task force you can imagine has set up in a church in an effort to bring her home. Every pole, window, car has a photo of the young lady smiling. Her mother putting it out there that if you hurt her to please just call and let them know where she is so they can bring her home.

At least we had that with my cousin, the homecoming. Followed by the blue casket sitting at the front of the church. I remember it being made of steel. The church overly packed. My aunt sedated to get through. I’ve had to sit through funerals sedated to.

I trust that God knows where she is just like He did my cousin. I pray that He is keeping her safe and that she isn’t being hurt. I pray that the truth will be set free and that as a community we can go back to feeling safe. Because a girl falling off the face of the earth at 6pm just doesn’t sit right.

If you’ve read this far please share her photo and pray that she will be returned to her family, friends and our community. She deserves that.

About 30 days or so ago, I received my very first Influenster Voxbox in the mail. Influenster is a fun website where you can review products of all sorts, from beauty to dog food and cleaning supplies and snacks. It’s pretty much all there waiting for you to share your opinion on it and since I started out as a book reviewer/blogger I thought it could be fun. Then, I got an email saying my FREE Voxbox was in the mail and that I had been selected to try out the L’Oréal Paris Hair Expertise shampoo, conditioner and leave in treatment called Total Repair 5, in exchange for my honest review.

I did make a YouTube video (or two) about the products and how much I love them. Because I REALLY DO. Which I did NOT expect at all. You see, I have fine, limp, easily damaged, long hair that is not color treated. In the past year I have used OgX Coconut Water shampoo and I have used Mane and Tail shampoo. Conditioners were just weighing my hair down so I was at a point where I just wasn’t bothering and my split ends showed the damage.

The Total Repair 5 claimed that after 15 washes I would have hair that was pretty much damage free. Which is a HUGE claim to make.

I washed my hair and after the very first wash I saw fewer split ends, less damage and my hair did NOT feel weighed down. My scalp also didn’t go into freak out mode and cause extra oils or anything like that which I had fully expected since I was changing all my hair products at once. As my hair dried I realized the brassiness was gone and that my natural color was corrected.

My 13-year-old DD saw the change in my hair and before I could even get in my second try she was using the products too. She has been a die-hard Herbal Essences fan forever. She has extremely easily matted hair that is super thick and almost course. She doesn’t color treat her hair either but it was going from her natural blond to a darker shade that she didn’t like and she was beginning to discuss the possibility of having it brightened with dye at a salon because she was not happy with her dirty color.

After ONE USE she had her blond hair back. So much so that my brother asked if she dyed it. She also hasn’t had more than a few small knots and can run a brush through her hair in a few seconds without shedding tears in the first time in her life.

I wasn’t going to blog about these products because I had already done a first impression review on YouTube and I had posted my review on the Influenster site, but seriously, when it changes your child’s life it is worth speaking about.

I braid her hair each night before bed so she has wavy/curls without the heat and after her first wash we were actually worried that her hair was too soft and wouldn’t hold a curl. WRONG! Her hair the next day was perfectly curled and had no flat spots, was full of body, shine and her natural high and low lights were awesome. She looked like she had spent hours on her hair when really all she did was use the L’Oréal Total Repair system while in the shower.

SOOO, if you aren’t happy with your current hair, have tangles or you are considering color correction, this may be the line for you!

I love the Mane and Tail shampoo I was using before but not having to cut out split ends every single day has been amazing.

If you know me in real life you know that I try to dress modestly and I prefer to wear skirts or dresses so when I got my affiliate email showing me some of the sales going on at Jane I just had to share because most of these fit my personal standards for modesty.

This tank/tee for example has a nice high neck and is loose fitting, no bra strap to worry about hiding and perfect for bending over as the neckline won’t gape and expose you! That’s what I call an awesome shirt! Plus, it’s on sale! Would be perfect alone or under a cardigan as a layering piece. Also looks comfy enough to be a pj top if you love to sleep in a tank!

Was $26.99 – Now $13.99 – Heathered Boyfriend Tank, S-XL

Again, this top also hits on the modesty for me. It has a high neck and covers the chest while remaining very fashion forward, It has a longer-short sleeve to cover those upper arms that many of us ladies don’t care to show and it comes down long enough that you can easily reach up and not have to worry about it showing off your bare stomach! Fresh, fun and classic all in one!

Was $40.00 – Now $19.99 – Perfect Polka Dot Tee!

These are listed as perfect for bridesmaids and they really are a nice dress. They appear to cover the thigh and chances are these models are like 7 feet tall so they would likely come down to the knee or farther on the average or petite woman. They have a higher neckline that safely allows for bending and reaching without being exposed and that mid length short sleeve to cover up the arms without getting in the way! Great for a night out with friends, the Mr or a formal event.

Was $44.99 – Now $29.99 – Lace Dresses | Perfect for Bridesmaids!

I love how the neckline on these also goes higher up and doesn’t exposed the bust, I am not too sure about the side but I think with a good layering shell these would be a fun pop of color to the wardrobe. Again, they are long enough to either be tucked in and will allow for reaching up to worship or clean without having to worry about exposing your tummy. Plus, they appear super comfortable.

Was $42.99 – Now $21.99 – Embroidered Tank

Kids! Yes Jane has kids things and look at how cute these little fellows look! Perfect clothes for a day at home playing with siblings or friends, or dress them up with those sweet button up shirts that are perfect for church! Great prices that mean when boys are boys and get covered in muck you won’t be TOO upset about them messing up their good clothes! I am really loving the look of the unbuttoned shirt over the colorful tee especially for this time of year where its too hot to be cold and too cool to be hot!

Was $24.00 – Now $14.50 – Personalized Boy Athletic Name Tee’s & Onesies! 3 Colors!

I clean the bathroom on Thursdays unless it needs it otherwise. Call me crazy for leaving it a full week before doing it again but Thursday seems to be what works for our family so that’s what I do. This week though I have been feeling sick still from the flu I had last week. Exhaustion comes simply from thinking and naps have been a must for the past 10 days or so. I did clean the bathroom last week so I wasn’t really behind. Yet yesterday I just slept most of the day and had no energy so it got moved over to the to-do list for Friday.

Isn’t that how everyone wants to spend their Friday evening?

I woke up from my long nap around dinner time, everyone had eaten and I had no appetite yet again. I sat on the bed contemplating whether or not being awake was a good thing and I wondered how babies sleep in such awkward positions without being stiff. This extremely deep thought forced me to conclude that that is why babies cry -stiff joints after a good nap.

I pulled out my planner to see what I hadn’t done this week and the list was a mile long and the bathroom stood out to me like a sore thumb. After some deep Biblical talk (yes seriously) with myself about cleaning the bathroom to serve the Lord I got off my butt and went upstairs and used that highly toxic mint scented toilet bowl cleaner and wondered to myself how on earth getting cancer was godly, then, I noted that I am only going to use natural cleaners once that bottle is gone.

I removed everything from the counters and wiped away, got mold out of the window, finished with the 7 toothbrushes and toothpastes, refilled the soap dispenser and then pulled out my trusty and equally toxic Lysol wipes and quickly gave the outside of the toilet a once over. Then, it hit me.

I was cleaning the bathroom to serve God and my family BUT I wasn’t doing it with a servants heart. Revelation right there on the floor. I pulled out a few more wipes and torqued my body around the toilet and wiped it properly, I was actually pretty grossed out by how much my once over missed and continued to clean. This time while talking to God about how I need Him to continue to work in my heart to help me make the mundane into something that can bring Him glory. Yes, I want my toilet to shine, not just for me, but to show God how grateful I am to have a toilet to clean, a family to mess it up and the cleaning supplies to get the task done.

I grabbed the toilet brush and scrubbed away while humming some of my favorite worship songs and for the first time in awhile it felt like cleaning the bathroom wasn’t a chore, but a duty asked of me by God.

When I was done with that I cleaned the mirrors in the rest of the house that didn’t have a streak free shine despite having just been done, because I wanted them to sparkle for God instead of just being half-done or done incorrectly just so they could get a check mark. I swept the floor around the dog crates, put 2 gallons of water in the fish tank and wiped down their glass.

I am still behind on my chores for the week, but I am excited to be approaching them with the mindset that I am serving not only my family, but the One who has gifted me all that I have.

Growing up I often heard that cleanliness was next to Godliness, and while I don’t believe that to be true because we all have different standards and ideas of what clean is, I feel that God is moving in my heart to do the job to the best of my ability whether I am wiping up crumbs, scrubbing a toilet, or simply taking care of myself. He isn’t calling me to be perfect, He is calling me to serve.
