My One Thousand Gifts

What is One Thousand Gifts?

One Thousand Gifts is a book by Ann Voskamp. In it she takes a challenge to write out one thousand things she is grateful for in a year, along the way she finds that this list keeping changes her spiritual life for the better. Each year she runs the challenge with participants via her website A Holy Experience and on Facebook. The goal is to write out three different things each day that you are grateful for, you can share these on her app, on her Facebook page, or simply keep them written in a journal as I have below.

2014 Update

I reached just over 3000 gifts this past year and I am excited to begin my list for 2015. In November I took a challenge that I saw online to write 1000 gifts in one month! It was so much easier than I thought possible.

God is amazing and His gifts are everywhere, in everything.

Counting gifts last year changed my life and brought me closer to God, and in a lot of ways tamed my moods. I am beyond blessed, especially in the everyday mundane!

Update May 9th 2014

I am updating my One Thousand Gifts again. I am amazed at the fact that I have already reached 1000! I thought this would be a challenge and while in a sense it was because of the soul searching it is definitely a blessing that I fully intend to continue throughout the years! I am excited to see how many “gifts” I have written down by the end of the year!

Wow, April 28th and I am at 808 of the 1000 goal. To live, really live, is to look and actually see, to experience and actually feel and to feel at home and content in the daily because the daily is what creates our lives and when we recognize the mundane and treat it as love we are perhaps for the first time living fully. My One Thousand Gifts, inspired by Ann Voskamp and encouraged by her blog A Holy Experience

I decided to scan in my One Thousand Gift journal instead of typing it all up so here are the first 600 Gifts. [Tweet “My #1000gifts taking the #joydare “] 44 43 42 41 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31 30 29 28 27 26 25 24 23 22 21 20 1918 17 16 15 14 13 12 10 9

  1. Hi Marissa,

Whew, that must have taken a while to scan and add in here. It’s fun and life-changing to count God’s gifts, huh? I’m hopping over from Ann’s link up.

    Nice to meet you,
    Jennifer Dougan

    • Thanks for stopping by Jennifer! It was a lot faster to scan in then it was to type it all in, it did take a couple of hours over a few days but I have been doing it now more regularly so I don’t have to spend more than a few mins. I will hop on over to your site and check things out! Thank you for being part of my 1000gifts!

  2. This looks like a great book and exercise. Thanks for sharing.
