Slowly Holding On

I am following or trying to follow the #JesusProject which is this pretty cool thing that Ann Voskamp has blessed us who are learning with “scripture memorization for the rest of us”. I must say that even doing it slowly, setting my computer back ground each week and having the printouts of the weekly verse on my white board still leaves me going “what did that say?”

Oh but I know that as I read and re-read and then re-read again that I am learning. Bits and pieces are sinking in as  they are relevant to my life and that. is. how. God. WORKS.

He doesn’t expect me to learn and memorize every single word right now, the seeds are planted and as they are needed in my life they will blossom and feed my soul the fruit that was grown from these tiny little seeds.

Calling these seeds tiny because they seem to be so insignificantly small but when the time is right they will grow, rapidly and nourish my soul and my entire being. They will make my cup overflow. They will attack whatever it is that is negative in my life and they will succeed because they are God’s seeds!

This week we focused on this piece from the Gospel of John.

John 4:23-24

New International Version (NIV)

23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

What a lovely thought it is to think that “his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth” because so many can recite the words but don’t believe the words. They don’t live the words. They don’t worship in Spirit or truth so their words don’t get their message to God. They are wasted air because if you don’t believe the words in which you speak. If you don’t have convictions in your feelings towards God then you can’t reap the benefits of the gifts he has promised us for our lives. Open your heart and pray from your soul because God is Spirit. God is truth.
