Water From God

Water is a Life Giving, Soul Sustaining Source

But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

John 4:14

The dog bowl {okay tall spaghetti pot} was running on empty again tonight and the dogs wanted to go out to eat the snow. I always laugh and call the snow “water from God” and they get all excited to go consume it but they freeze off their feet. I gave them some water out of a jug I had in this part of the house that was set out to refill the bird dish but I figured the dogs needed it more. The sniffed it, took a few licks and wanted back outside.

Water from God it is!

Instead of playing doorman all night, I grabbed their spaghetti pot and swooped it into yesterdays fresh layer of snow, filling it up past the brim. They love their water from God and all three sat eagerly waiting. The fourth one is upstairs in his bed so he will have to get some water from God tomorrow.

It Makes Me Laugh

Oh how I laugh when I think that they have a bowl of tap water but would rather drink from the fish tank, a mud puddle, swamp, lake or the snow. Apparently nature’s water is far better than my well water. Though, I am sure they are pretty much the same!

So now I have had three dogs have snow cones to satisfy their thirst and I think about my thirst for the Lord. How their spaghetti pot being over filled is quite literally the cup overflowing. Maybe the dogs aren’t Christian, though I often read scripture aloud and listen to Christian music so I could be wrong, but the very thought that they pick the precious pure snow over water from the faucet tells me that even they can make a choice for purity!

The three of them are all shivering now but completely content in the fact that they had their “drink”.

What they Teach

Water from God enjoyed by some deer

Simplicity is often taught to us by our infants, our young children, and our pets. We create the chaos we live in. We decide to either be relaxed or super busy with no time to spare. We look out the window and see 6 new inches and wonder if we should plow. A child sees that snow and imagines making snow angels with the sun beaming down on them, they picture a snowman with the perfect carrot nose -just waiting to be stolen by the next deer to wander through! The pets, they see this as a pure, life-giving, life-sustaining source and they go out in it and they play and give their appreciation by coming in soggy, they eat it because they know it is the newest and the freshest water around and they don’t even consider that they will get cold.

For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.

Revelation 7:17
